Tree Planting/Nursery Crew Member
Kalee Mars is a Tree Planting/Nursery Crew Member with the Texas Trees Foundation, a private nonprofit focused on urban forestry, green infrastructure and sustainable design. The Foundation’s strategic approach is based in research driven data to mitigate the environmental challenges and related public health concerns that trees can alleviate.
Mr. Mars’ passion and genuine interest in trees, gardening and landscaping make him an asset for the Texas Trees Foundation, and his on-site work at the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center. He is responsible for managing the tree irrigation, maintenance and general care at the tree farm, along with helping with volunteer events and tree plantings as part of our projects and programs. Kalee also coordinates community service volunteers and service opportunities at the tree farm.
Kalee has spent his whole life in the landscaping field, both professionally and personally, working with a variety of plants over the years. He really enjoys experimenting with nativescapes, pollinator and vegetable gardens, as well as native and exotic trees when he has the chance. Kalee especially enjoys pushing the edge with “low maintenance, high yield” plants and growing tropical fruit trees.
Kalee and his wife live locally, but he spent time in China studying and he does some translation on the side. When he’s not working at the tree farm or in his own garden, he spends his free time cooking home-grown vegetables and learning more about organic agriculture and native plants.
