The Roadmap to Planning & Planting Trees is a new national model that identifies and helps prioritize potential tree planting sites by characterizing each planting site using a variety of environmental and geographic variables.
The process of identifying potential planting sites starts with identifying open space from aerial imagery. Through a series of simple geoprocessing steps, each open space area is converted to optimized planting sites. These optimized points enter a second geospatial modelling process that describes and categorizes each point by considering nearby features, providing the information local planners need to identify the most important planting sites.
