TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm & Education Center

TXU Energy has sponsored the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center since 2002. With their valuable sponsorship, this project is the nation’s largest-known urban tree farm. The four-acre TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center at Richland College features state-of-the-art production and irrigation technology with the capacity to produce over 7,000 ten-gallon trees per planting season. Trees are offered to the public through programs like The Groves, Tree the Town, and Re-Leaf. Since 2002 TXU Energy has planted over 240,000 trees across Texas.

On the third Saturday of each month (except during the hot months of June, July and August) Texas Trees Foundation holds an event called the “Tree Tender” Volunteer Day. Through this event volunteers log thousands of hours each year mulching, pruning, weeding, cleaning up trash and tree planting. In this way the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center continues to provide a place for urban forest education.

Every year the Texas Trees Foundation looks for ways to improve the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center. The site offers an avenue for urban forest research and education. Techniques and projects are continously updated. The Texas Trees Foundation has a rich history and is positioned to build on the traditions established by its founders and nurtured by its stewardship of the Urban Forest.
