Each year, TXU Energy participates in an employee fundraising campaign benefitting the United Way and TXU Energy AidSM. This year, for every employee who contributed to the campaign TXU Energy is donating a tree to a high-need area in Texas through its Committed to Community Growth program. Trees will come from the Texas Trees Foundation’s TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm, the largest nonprofit urban tree farm in the nation, located at Richland College.
Over 70% of the company’s employees participated in this year’s campaign. As a result more than 700 trees will be planted across Texas on the givers behalf. Trees will be designated for public property, such as neighborhood associations, schools, nonprofit organizations and municipalities.
Through its Committed to Community Growth program, the trees TXU Energy provides not only beautify the community but also provide money saving benefits. Shading from trees can reduce electric bills and decrease energy costs, especially when planted on the east and west sides of a home or business. Additionally, trees can help increase property values. Since 2002, TXU Energy and volunteers from other community organizations have planted more than 160,000 trees across Texas.
